Temporarily fund federal government and renew PATRIOT Act: passed 74 to 20 in the U.S. Senate

To provide temporary funding for the federal government through December 20, averting for another month a possible government shutdown. The bill also reauthorizes the PATRIOT Act, a law passed by Congress in the wake of 9/11 that gives the federal government broad surveillance powers.
